ADDITIONAL AEO MOBILE APP PROJECTS
Designing a Retail App
As an UX designer for American Eagle Outfitters, I focus on the user experience of the AEO + Aerie Mobile App for iOS and Android. When undertaking any design project in the app I've always thought about how to make the experience extra special for our loyal app users with immersive visuals and motion and app specific features that create a seamless and fun digital shopping experience. The app performance reflects the dedication to the success of the app team - the iOS app currently has a 4.8 rating and the apps have consistently improved on last years' performance by double or even triple digit percentages.
My Role
I've been the user experience lead on several large design projects in the app detailed below. My typical role on a project is to initially create low fidelity concept wireframes based on the overall goal and requirements of the project. I then iterate and refine my designs into high fidelity wireframes based on rounds of user testing and internal feedback. For user testing, I create interactive prototypes to test key aspects of the experience and perform and analyze the usability tests myself. Motion design is also a key part of my design process and I use various prototyping tools to communicate that aspect of the experience. I hand off my wireframes to a visual designer for final visual treatment once the working team has aligned.

Checkout Redesign
Project Goal
The previous bag and checkout pages in the app used UI patterns and designs unfamiliar to the app customer, causing usability issues. The goal of the redesign was to use iOS and Android best practices to design a checkout that would seamlessly take the user through the purchasing flow.
Process
I user tested several different checkout designs to determine if single page or a multi-step process was preferred by users. I also carefully researched platform and competitive standards for checkouts and managing of items as the user would have in their bag. I wanted the bag and checkout screens to strike a balance between providing a clear overview of the items and promotions in the user's order and allow the user to edit their bag or user information in just a few taps. For example, users can quickly swipe and item to remove it or tap "Edit" to manage the cart in more detail.
Results
A high performing bag experience that leverages platform standards and allows users to easily manage the items in their bag. The redesign also yielded a one page checkout process where customers can quickly and easily move through their purchase in one tap.
Aerie Bikini Mix & Match
Project Goal
Allow Aerie swim customers to design a bikini, mix and matching with all of the various color and top and bottom fit options available to them.
Results
Scrolls bars on either side of the screen allow users to quickly see the assortment of fits available and test out various colors at the same time. A quick tap on the other piece of the suit makes for easy mixing and matching between tops and bottoms. I added a "Screen Shot" feature that would add a picture of the finished suit to the user's camera roll for easy sharing with friends.
Process
Before landing on the final design, I concepted different form factors for how the user could mix & match both the color and fit of pieces and easily switch between the top and the bottom, experimenting with horizontal and vertical carousels and a variety of scrolling and dragging gestures. I chose the final design because it has fun interaction pattern, but a low learning curve so the user can start mixing and matching without hesitation.
Inspiration Tab
Project Goal
Create a destination within the app for our loyal AE shoppers to find inspiration from our social feeds and shop our new and featured items in a visual, catalog-like layout.
Results
Users of the Inspiration tab are highly engaged and convert at a rate 2 times higher than the rest of the app.
I've worked on many other projects in addition to the ones detailed above including updates to the product details page, a reserve in store program, a music player, and a visual search tool called Snap & Scan. Drop me a note if you would like to hear more!
